5 Affordable Ways to Spruce Up Your Home

Jul 26, 2021 | Home Decor & Styling

Summer is a great time to tackle some home renovation projects? While some projects can be expensive, not every one requires a lot of time or money. Below are some simple, affordable home improvement projects that are easy, fun, and won’t break the bank.

Refresh Your Space With Paint

Looking for a simple way to transform the inside and outside of your home? Stop by your local hardware store and explore the paint section! With so many colors to choose from, you’re sure to find a color that speaks to you.

If a brighter, more inviting space is what you’re going for, try swapping your browns and tans for a light grey or white color. Painting a room white can help open up the space, making it appear larger and brighter.

If you want to go the trendy route, check out Pantone’s 2021 color of the year, featuring a bright yellow and soothing grey. Pantone says the two colors complement each other – as the bright yellow hue evokes a feeling that brighter days are ahead.

Painting can also be a fun summer project for kids. Let your kids pick out their own room color or work together to create a fun accent wall.

Clean Out Your Gutters

This might not be the most fun summer project, but it’s an important one! In fact, cleaning your gutters every year can save you from more expensive repairs down the line.

Did you know failing to clean out your gutters every year can result in cracked gutters (leading to replacement), interior flooding and cracked driveways? Debris in gutters can also result in pest and rodent infestations.

Never cleaned out your gutters before? It’s simple! Pick up a gutter cleaning attachment for your garden hose, then pull out your ladder, a bucket, a gutter scoop, and some gloves.

To protect your gutters from collecting leaves and debris moving forward, you can always purchase a gutter guard.

Spruce Up Outdoor Areas

With the warmer weather upon us, chances are you’re spending a lot more time outside. That’s why summer is the perfect time to give your front – and backyard – a makeover!

To start,  gather the kids and create a backyard vegetable garden. Not only does it look great, but you’ll reap the benefits of having fresh veggies all summer long!

If flowers are more your thing, planting a flower garden is just as simple. Summertime is the perfect time to plant perennials, a variety of beautiful-looking flowers that are low maintenance. Choose colors that compliment the exterior color of your home and finish it off by adding fresh mulch. You can even take it a step further by adding rocks or stones as a border.

Adding landscaping to the front of your home can also help your home’s curb appeal. While you’re at it, remember to clean up your yard by getting rid of any overgrown or dead plants, trees, or shrubs.

Update Your Lighting

Lighten up the interior and exterior of your home with some new fixtures! You don’t have to hire an electrician for this project.

If your light fixtures are a brassy color, but you like the style of them, try spray painting them black or navy blue. This works really well for vanity mirror lights or your pendants over your kitchen island.

You can also replace traditional bell-shaped lampshades with more contemporary shades. Switching out standard light bulbs to Edison light bulbs can also give your space a more modern vibe.

If you really want to make a statement, add some uplighting to the front of your home. You can even add solar lights to help illuminate your sidewalk or newly planted flower beds.

Get Rid Of The Clutter

The idea of sprucing up your home doesn’t always mean you add more to your abode. Often, it means getting rid of the clutter and living with less stuff.

Decluttering can help you reduce stress as well as offer your home a new atmosphere. Apart from that, you’ll enjoy the following benefits:

  • Fewer things to clean
  • Fewer things to organize
  • Less stress for you
  • More energy to do other things

So, if you want to spruce up your home fast and easy, start with a decluttering project. It makes a lot of difference.
