2020: You aren't what I expected

Hello 2020! (You are NOT What I Expected)

Aug 16, 2020 | HG Team

Hi DFW! I’m Melesse Hoss, Founder of Hoss Group Realty. I can’t tell you how excited I am for us to get to know each other. I wanted to start this blog by telling you a little bit about HG’s journey thus far.

January 1st finally arrived. Hoss Group Realty announced the launch of our brand new business and team with all the vigor and optimism you could imagine. Like you, I thought “This is my year.” And it really was looking that way, as we started off strong. We had the people, the goals, the plan, and the grit.

Then came the news….I’m sorry, did they just say global pandemic?! My heart hit my feet. I just started a business with a wonderful team that I am also now responsible for feeding! Global pandemic was not in any of HG’s plans and certainly not on any of our vision boards. Our plan was to hit the ground running. We had our systems in place, and hired some of the best in the business to see our vision realized. I wanted a group of like minded women: driven by helping others, by giving back to the community, and who come from a place of contribution. I hate to brag, but I nailed it.

Part of our plans for the year were to be a real estate group that isn’t just here to sell or help people find homes, but to also be a voice in the community. We were going to spend every other Saturday volunteering, get involved with a few special non-profits, and be more than just realtors. All the nuts and bolts were/are there and work beautifully, but with Covid-19 we lost some of that outreach opportunity, temporarily.  After the initial shock and minor panic attacks, I realized I had two options. I could treat this as a forced vacation and myself and the team could spend some quality time in quarantine with our families, or option two, we could re-group, and pivot our plans and systems around 2020’s lovely new gift. HG opted for option 2.

Through pure optimism, laser focus, and teamwork, HG not only survived, but flourished. We had an emergency meeting and decided we are all in. Yes, this stinks, yes, this is going to be challenging, but since when did any of us ever back down from a challenge. Never. So, we leaned in, put our heads together, and re-vamped our 2020 plan. Quickly HG pivoted and adapted to our new normal by adding masks, gloves, and lots of sanitizer, as well as by immediately launching and expanding our virtual services options. However, we made sure to still keep community and giving back at the forefront of every decision.

When Dallas’s “Stay At Home” Order went into effect, we knew there would be so many that we could help. And so HG immediately began running giveaways with cash and food prizes for those who were struggling, but fighting through despite their challenges such as service industry workers, front-line healthcare workers, and teachers. For our clients desperately needing to sell or those in need of a roof over their head we made it happen. We did and do what is best for our clients and what makes them the most comfortable.

HG, you, me, all of us have never lived through anything like this. It has been terrifying, confusing, stressful, and trying. At the end of the day I find solace in gratitude. I am grateful to work with such brilliant, driven, innovative women that encourage and inspire me, grateful for another day of life, for another chance to do good, be better, and to learn. So, while Covid-19 may win this round, and claim 2020 as her own, she has no control over our hearts or our mindsets. That is ours, and hey, there’s always 2021.

Cheers!
