Rental and retail development planned on DART’s new commuter rail line.
Developers scored a win with a Plano project that will include a new pickleball venue.
Houston-based Hines is partnering with landowner Metropolitan Interests Corp. on the seven-acre project south of Plano’s downtown.
The planned apartment and retail development is one of several new transit-oriented projects popping up along DART’s new Silver Line. The 26-mile-long commuter rail link will run between DFW International Airport and Plano.
Plano’s planning and zoning commission gave unanimous approval for a zoning change to support the Railside Lofts and Courts to be built between Metropolitan Avenue and N Street along the DART line.
The development will include 390 apartments and retail space. The pickleball courts will be in a repurposed existing industrial building on the property.
Dallas architect GFF is designing the project. Austin-based Bouldin Acres will operate the pickleball center.
Developers and entertainment firms are scrambling to build pickleball centers in North Texas because of the rise in the sport’s popularity.
